on birds

1) what's with old people and birds? my crazy old neighbors put out birdseed, crumbs, younameit out on their stoop for the birdies twice a day. there is bird poop EVERYWHERE. why not in the back? or how about a bird feeder? why aren't young people obsessed with birds?
2) has anyone noticed the rival factions of pigeons at 18th and columbia? it feels like you're about to get your eyes and heads pecked out when they're all amassed, in competing flocks, dive-bombing. and which one gets to decide where they go?
